Basugaon is a Town in Chirang District of Assam, India the name of this Town is Derived from its high Bamboo plantation and Bamboo market basically “basu” or “bash” means Bamboo and “gaon” means village that is Basugaon, the village of Bamboo. It is and Industrial town and a Municipal Board area. It is neighborhood of Bongaigaon  and it is situated approximately 180 K.M. from Guwahati city in the western  part of the lower Assam region . Basugaon Town committee was formed in the year 1973 and latter in 2018 it was upgraded to Basugaon Municipal Board.

Basugaon is located at 26° 28' 2.71" N  90° 25' 10.24" E It has an average elevation of 50 metres (164 feet). Vegetation is deciduous and evergreen, also grasslands at patches.

As of 2011 India census,[2] The Basugaon Municipal Board has a population of 13849 of which 7,126 are males while 6,723 are females as per report released by Census India 2011.
